WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized George Mason junior James Quinn-Irons as its Under Armour Baseball Player of the Week. Rhode Island freshman Jake Cullen was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week and Davidson freshman Jacob Vokal was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for games played from March 3 to March 9.
Quinn-Irons, an outfielder, combined for an 11 for 16 performance at the plate over four games for George Mason. In George Mason’s NCAA record-setting game against Holy Cross, Quinn-Irons was 3 for 4 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. The Patriots set the NCAA Division I record for most runs in an inning (23) against Holy Cross. The Reston, Va. native finished the week with 10 RBI, a double, a triple, a home run, nine runs scored and three walks.
Cullen made two appearances for Rhode Island last week. He pitched three scoreless innings against Sacred Heart and surrendered one hit with seven strikeouts. Cullen, the Westford, Mass. native tossed five shutout innings in his start against Eastern Kentucky. Cullen registered six strikeouts and allowed one hit with two walks. He finished the week without allowing a run in eight innings of work with 13 strikeouts.
Vokal, a Hoschton, Ga. native, made two starts for Davidson last week. In his first start against No. 4 Clemson, Vokal allowed one run on two hits across three innings. Vokal made his second start against South Carolina and pitched three scoreless innings, struck out three, walked two and allowed one hit.
