WASHINGTON -- Richmond capped off a phenomenal regular season, where the Spiders went 26-5 and 17-1 in A-10 play by winning their second-straight Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Regular Season Title. The Spiders are the first team to ever go 17-1 in A-10 play and the first team to only lose one game in a conference season since Dayton in 2022. Richmond will be the No. 1 overall seed in next week's A-10 Women's Basketball Championship at the Henrico Sports & Events Center in Glen Allen, Va. The 15-team, single-elimination tournament tips off Wednesday, March 5 and concludes with the championship final on Sunday, March 9.
ESPN+ will stream Wednesday’s first-round games and Thursday's second-round games. For the first time ever, Friday's quarterfinal round will broadcast on Peacock, with all four games beginning at 11:00 a.m. airing on the network. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinals Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. while the championship final will get underway Sunday at 4:00 p.m. via a national broadcast on ESPN2.
The Spiders, who won their first Atlantic 10 Championship last season and earned the league's automatic bid, have won 16 games in a row, the eighth-longest winning streak in the nation. Richmond hasn't lost since January 2 and receives a double-bye into the quarterfinals, opening play Friday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m.
George Mason earns the two seed, their highest ever, after a 14-4 mark in Atlantic 10 play and 24-5 overall record, their best in program history. The Patriots will open their A-10 Championship run on Friday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m.
Davidson also earns their highest seed ever securing the three seed after finishing with a program-best 13-5 record in conference play. The Wildcats have won eight of their last nine games and stand at 18-12 overall. They will begin their A-10 Championship run on Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.
The final double-bye spot goes to fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's, who wraps up the regular season at 12-6 in Atlantic 10 play and 12-6 overall. The Hawks will open play at the A-10 Championship on Friday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Seeds five through nine registered byes into the second round and will begin play Thursday. Rhode Island (11-7) notched fifth overall and will take on the winner of No. 12 George Washington (5-13) and No. 13 Loyola Chicago (5-13) on Thursday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. The Revolutionaries and Ramblers officially launch the championship with their first-round contest Wednesday at noon on ESPN+.
Sixth-seeded Dayton (11-7) starts its run Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of No. 11 VCU (6-12) and No. 14 La Salle (3-15). The matchup between the Rams and Explorers will wrap up Day One of the Championship at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday on ESPN+.
Massachusetts (11-7) will be the seven seed and start their run on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of No. 10 Saint Louis (7-11) and No. 15 St. Bonaventure (2-16), who will face-off on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Rhode Island earned the three-way tiebreaker over Dayton and UMass at 11-7 and then Dayton won the head-to-head tiebreaker over Massachusetts to earn the sixth seed.
No. 8 Fordham (9-9) and No. 9 Duquesne (9-9) will kick off Thursday at the A-10 Championship, playing at 11:00 a.m. on ESPN+ for the chance to face No. 1 Richmond in the Quarterfinal round. The Rams won the tiebreaker over the Dukes for the eighth-seed with a 2-0 regular season record against Duquesne.
The winner of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which tips off Wednesday, March 19 with the First Four.
