George Washington Maintains Lead in A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships

HAMPTON, Va. -- The George Washington men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams maintained their hold on first-place in the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.  

On the men's side, GW captured gold in the men’s 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay. The Revolutionaries lead with 584 points, followed by George Mason in second with 340. St. Bonaventure is close behind in third with 315 points. The remaining current standings are Davidson (298), La Salle (252), Massachusetts (205), Fordham (187) and Saint Louis (158).  

The GW women’s team secured five top three finishes in the 100-yard butterfly, two in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke and women’s 3-meter diving. The Revolutionaries lead in first place with 438.5 points. Richmond is second with 383 points and Duquesne is third with 363 points. Fordham (264), Davidson (237.5), George Mason (216), La Salle (209), Massachusetts (202), St. Bonaventure (158), Rhode Island (131) and Saint Louis (57) round out the current standings.  

  • GW claimed the men’s 400-yard medley relay behind Ganesh Sivaramkrishnan, Preston Lin, Daniel Nagy and Elliott Irwin in 3:07.43. La Salle was second, led by Noah Fredriksson, Andrea Savoca, Felix Jedbratt and Carter Perkins in 3:09.95. George Mason placed third by Ian Rodgers, Tyler Lentine, Aoun Al-Hiari and Tate Anderson in 3:10.36. 

  • George Mason claimed gold in the women’s 400-yard medley relay at 3:39.28. The Patriots were led by Ali Tyler, Emma DeJong, Abigial Murtaugh and Peyton Brehmer. Duquesne finished second behind Haley Scholer, Sydney Severini, Ashley Freel and Kaitlyn Connors in 3:39.92. Richmond placed third led by Hannah Wieczorek, Gabbie Primiano, Lena Amare and Melissa Nwakalor in 3:40.50. 

  • Annica Valmassei of Davidson won the women’s 3-meter diving with a score of 303.15. GW’s Olivia Paquette finished second with a score of 284.15. Krystyna Yaremyn of Massachusetts placed third with a score of 281.85.  

  • GW’s Sivaramakrishna and Holden Thomas placed first and second, respectively. Sivaramakrishna finished in first at 46.63 and Thomas placed in 46.97. Christian Taylor of Fordham completed in third at 47.24.   

  • Tyler of George Mason broke her second record in as many days in the women’s 100-yard back. Tyler set the new A-10 meet time at 56.62. Duquesne’s Haley Scholer is second with 53.63 and Leire Martin of Fordham placed third in 54.00.  

  • St. Bonaventure’s Aidan Kreiley claimed a gold medal in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke. Kreiley won in 53.30 with GW’s Preston Lin finishing second in 53.49. La Salle’s Andrea Savoca placed third in 53.70. 

  • Emma DeJong of George Mason won first in the women’s 100-yard breast. DeJong completed the race in 1:01.11. Gabrysia Herbreder of La Salle followed her in second at 1:01.19. GW's Natalie Sens and Davidson's Anna Newman tied for third place at 1:01.90.

  • Dylan Felt of Davidson secured gold in the men’s 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:33.76. He was followed by second-place finisher George Mason’s Anderson in 1:34.39. Carter Perkins of La Salle placed third in 1:36.88.  

  • Duquesne swimmers Egan and Lexi Sundgren claimed first and second, respectively, in the women’s 200-yard free. Egan raced to a time of 1:49.37 and Sundgren finished in 1:49.41. Ginny Thorsen of Davidson placed third in 1:49.90.  

  • GW swept the men’s 400-yard IM. Connor Rodgers claimed his second gold medal in 3:46.15, which set a new A-10 record. His teammates Gage Boushee placed second (3:48.77) and Ben Sosnowski finished third (3:49.85).  

  • Fordham’s Ainhona Martin secured first-place with her win in the women’s 400-yard IM. Martin finished in 4:13.40 followed by Colleen Macwilliams in second. GW’s Macwilliams completed the event in 4:13.65 with GW’s Molly Smyers in third (4:14.55).  

  • Jedbratt claimed his second title with his victory in the men’s 100-yard butterfly. Jedbratt of La Salle completed the event in 44.97. Irwin and Nagy of George Washington finished second and third in 46.15 and 46.59, respectively.  

  • Duquesne’s Ashley Freel claimed gold in the women’s 100-yard butterfly at 53.00. Moriah Freitas of George Washington placed second in 53.04. Fordham’s Jessica Zebrowski slotted in third at 53.87.  

A champion will be crowned on Saturday with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
