HAMPTON, Va. -- The George Washington men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams maintained their hold on first-place in the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.
On the men's side, GW captured gold in the men’s 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay. The Revolutionaries lead with 584 points, followed by George Mason in second with 340. St. Bonaventure is close behind in third with 315 points. The remaining current standings are Davidson (298), La Salle (252), Massachusetts (205), Fordham (187) and Saint Louis (158).
The GW women’s team secured five top three finishes in the 100-yard butterfly, two in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke and women’s 3-meter diving. The Revolutionaries lead in first place with 438.5 points. Richmond is second with 383 points and Duquesne is third with 363 points. Fordham (264), Davidson (237.5), George Mason (216), La Salle (209), Massachusetts (202), St. Bonaventure (158), Rhode Island (131) and Saint Louis (57) round out the current standings.

GW claimed the men’s 400-yard medley relay behind Ganesh Sivaramkrishnan, Preston Lin, Daniel Nagy and Elliott Irwin in 3:07.43. La Salle was second, led by Noah Fredriksson, Andrea Savoca, Felix Jedbratt and Carter Perkins in 3:09.95. George Mason placed third by Ian Rodgers, Tyler Lentine, Aoun Al-Hiari and Tate Anderson in 3:10.36.

George Mason claimed gold in the women’s 400-yard medley relay at 3:39.28. The Patriots were led by Ali Tyler, Emma DeJong, Abigial Murtaugh and Peyton Brehmer. Duquesne finished second behind Haley Scholer, Sydney Severini, Ashley Freel and Kaitlyn Connors in 3:39.92. Richmond placed third led by Hannah Wieczorek, Gabbie Primiano, Lena Amare and Melissa Nwakalor in 3:40.50.

Duquesne swimmers Egan and Lexi Sundgren claimed first and second, respectively, in the women’s 200-yard free. Egan raced to a time of 1:49.37 and Sundgren finished in 1:49.41. Ginny Thorsen of Davidson placed third in 1:49.90.
A champion will be crowned on Saturday with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
