George Mason, George Washington Lead After Day 1 of A-10 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Finals

HAMPTON, Va. – The George Washington Women’s and George Mason Men’s Swimming and Diving teams each lead after Day 1 of the A-10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.

The Revolutionaries captured two first place victories in the 800-yard freestyle relay and the women’s 1-meter diving event. George Mason secured gold in the 800-yard freestyle relay and set a new A-10 record for the event. 

Olivia Paquette defended her crown in the 1-meter women’s diving event. The reigning Most Outstanding Diver of the Year won the event for the Revolutionaries with a score of 288.35.

On the women’s side, George Washington leads with 107 points. The Spiders are in second at 83 followed by Davidson (74), Duquesne (73), Massachusetts (70), Fordham (67), La Salle (66), St. Bonaventure (59), George Mason (52), Rhode Island (38) and Saint Louis (26).

On the men’s side, George Mason sits in first with 74 points with George Washington close behind at second with 72 points. Davidson is third (64) followed by St. Bonaventure (58), La Salle (54), Saint Louis (50), Massachusetts (50) and Fordham (50).
  • Richmond won the women’s 200-yard medley with a time of 1:39.64 behind Caroline Weldon, Gabbie Primiano, Lena Amare and Melissa Nwakalor. George Washington placed second at 1:39.70 behind Marlee Rickert, Natalie Sens, Moriah Freitas and Chloe Hernandez. La Salle swam to third place behind Gabriela Herbreder, Quero Ungo Carlota, Camilla Frost and Victoria Fenn in 1:40.22.
  • George Washington won the men’s 200-yard medley at 1:25.99, which marks the fourth fastest time in A-10 Championship history. The Revolutionaries gold medal team was led by Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan, Preston Lin, Daniel Nagy and Elliot Irwin. It’s GW’s third consecutive victory in the 200-medley relay. George Mason followed in second at 1:26.43 by Ian Rodgers, Tyler Lentine, Kyle Johnson and Zane Roberts. La Salle finished third (1:27.00) behind swimmers Tarik Guisc, Andrea Savoca, Felix Jedbratt and Carter Perkins.
  • The Revolutionaries captured a first-place finish in the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay behind Colleen MacWilliams, Molly Smyers, Taylor Bernosky and Ava Topolewski. The four GW swimmers swam to a time of 7:15.48. It’s the Revolutionaries third 800-yard freestyle relay victory in a row. Duquesne placed second led by Lexi Sundgren, Orla Egan, Sierra Snow and Haley Scholer at 7:15.75. Fordham finished third at 7:17.59 behind Ainhoa Martin, Jessica Zebrowski, Leire Martin and Emilie Krog.   
  • George Mason set a new men’s 800-yard freestyle relay time and secured a first-place victory at 6:24.73. The Patriots’ record-breaking performance was led by Tate Anderson, Alex Crown, Cody Scifres and Zane Roberts. Davidson narrowly finished behind the Patriots for second place in 6:25.40, which ranks third among the fastest times in A-10 800-yard free relay history. The Wildcats were led by Dylan Felt, Mitch McClain, Fletcher Smith and Matthew Shnowske. George Washington finished third behind Gage Boushee, Daniel Nagy, Philip Moldvanu and Justin Dostal at 6:29.26.
  • Olivia Paquette defended her 1-meter diving final to win the event with a score of 288.35. St. Bonaventure’s Dhavgely Mendoza placed second with a score of 273.65 and Davidson’s Elle Jacobsen finished third with a score of 271.60.
Day 2 of the A-10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships begin Thursday with the preliminaries at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
