WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Fordham graduate student David Vargas as its Under Armour Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week and his freshman teammate Quinn MacPhail as its Men’s Rookie of the Week. Rhode Island senior Olivia Winslow earned Under Armour Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while Fordham freshman Saskia Aikman was tabbed as Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for competitions from Dec. 1 to Dec. 7.  

Vargas won both diving events in Fordham’s tri-meet with NYU and The College of New Jersey. He won the one-meter event with a score of 318.30, while scoring 402.35 on the three-meter board for the first place finish. Vargas, a Mexico City, Mexico native, holds the third best score in the A-10 for the one-meter dive and second-best mark in the three-meter dive.  

MacPhail, a native of Shaker Heights, OH, won both distance freestyle events at Fordham's NYU and TCNJ tri-meet. He posted winning times of 9:24.80 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 4:37.93 in the 500-yard freestyle. MacPhail’s 1,000-yard free time ranks fifth best in the conference.  

Competing against La Salle and Massachusetts, Winslow swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events for Rhode Island. She broke URI’s program record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 304.00, marking her fifth victory in five meets in the 1-meter. In the 3-meter, Winslow scored 309.55, her second-highest score of the season. The Ballston Spa, NY native has four wins in the 3-meter dive in five meets. She holds the top mark in the 1- and 3-meter dives in the A-10.  

Aikman, who is from White Plains, NY, had two top three finishes in Fordham’s meet against NYU. She earned silver in the 50-yard freestyle (23.89) and finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (51.95). Aikman also contributed to the 200-medley relay team that won the event in 1:44.41.
