RICHMOND, Va. -- Clara Larripa recorded a hat trick, including two quick third-quarter goals to lift top-seeded Richmond over fourth-seed Davidson 4-2 in the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship semifinals on Thursday at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders advance to the A-10 title match on Saturday at noon to face the winner between No. 2 VCU and third-seeded Saint Joseph’s.
Richmond and Davidson were knotted at one before Larripa broke the tie and converted on a corner from an assist by Alexa Derr. Larripa, who also scored Richmond’s first-half goal, connected for her third, giving the Spiders a two-goal lead. Derr added an insurance goal for the Spiders to take a 4-1 advantage.
Lourdes Wolf gave the Wildcats hope in the third immediately after Derr’s score. But despite multiple chances, including a clean look by Hannah Merritt that UR keeper Amanda Cimillo made a diving stop to deny a third Davidson goal.
Davidson (10-9) jumped out to the lead in the second period taking the first lead. Sib Naaktgeboren, the 2025 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, scored the Wildcats’ first goal.
Richmond (12-7) advances to the Spiders’ first A-10 Championship game since 2019. UR was the co-regular season champions with VCU, and are searching for their first conference title and NCAA berth since 2014.
