CANCÚN, Mexico –– Despite a 23-point output from Maggie Doogan, the University of Richmond women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Thursday night, dropping a 68-52 decision to No. 8 TCU in Cancún, Mexico. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 5-2 on the year while the Horned Frogs remain undefeated at 7-0.

How it Happened
TCU opened the scoring with a layup before Maggie Doogan responded on the other end with a jumper. The Horned Frogs then used a 6-0 spurt to build an early 8-2 lead before a pair of free throws from Ally Sweeney got the Spiders back in the scoring column at 8-4. After exchanging a few buckets, the Spiders scratched back to 16-11, but two free throws and a layup from the Horned Frogs pushed the margin to 20-11. Rachel Ullstrom posted a layup courtesy of Doogan, but four straight points from TCU made it 24-13 with 47 seconds left in the quarter. A final layup from Sweeney ended the first 10 minutes with Richmond trailing 24-15.
Sam Dewey, in her first start for the Spiders, opened the second quarter with a layup before TCU answered with a triple. Rayne Wright added another layup to cut it to 27-19, but TCU continued its offensive pressure, using an 11-0 run to stretch the margin to 40-19. A pair of free throws from Ava Persichetti ended the drought and brought Richmond within 40-21 with 4:05 left in the half. TCU again responded with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 49-21 before a late layup from Sweeney sent Richmond into the break trailing 49-23.
TCU capitalized on an and-one play to open the third quarter before back-to-back threes from Sweeney and Alicia Newell brought the deficit to 52-29. After a TCU jumper, the Spiders added four more points to make it 54-33 with 4:44 remaining. Richmond then pieced together a 6-0 spurt to pull within 56-39, but a late jumper from Olivia Miles sent the Spiders into the final quarter trailing 58-39.
Both teams traded buckets to start the fourth before a three from Ullstrom sparked an 8-0 Richmond run to bring the deficit to 63-50. A lone TCU triple pushed the margin back to 66-50 before Doogan knocked down two free throws to make it 66-52. Miles again scored late, this time on a layup, to close out the 68-52 final.

- Sam Dewey made her first collegiate start and finished with four points, one rebound and one assist.
- Maggie Doogan paced the team with 23 points and added seven rebounds, one assist and one block. She posted her 83rd game in double figures.
- Ally Sweeney finished in double figures with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Tierra Simon added six rebounds and six assists off the bench.
