WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized VCU freshman Marcus Acheampong and George Mason junior Walt Bannerman as its Under Armour Men’s Indoor Track Performer and Field Performer of the Week, respectively. Fordham freshman Njam Abdul-Latif received the Rookie Performer of the Week.
On the women’s side, La Salle sophomore Gwenno Goode and Loyola Chicago graduate student Emma Watcke were named Under Armour Co-Women’s Track Performers of the Week. VCU senior Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir and George Mason sophomore Alina Florou Dimitriadou were tabbed as the Field and Rookie Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards are for competitions from Jan. 22 to Jan. 27 and were announced on Tuesday.
Acheampong, a Dumfries, Va. native, earned a victory in the 60-meter hurdles at the Brant Tolsma Invitational. He finished with a time of 8.11, which is first in the A-10, and ranks fifth overall in VCU’s record book. Acheampong was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second at 3:18.25.
Bannerman reached a personal best in the pole vault event at the Hokie Invitational. The Durham, N.C. native reached a mark of 17-05.75, which leads the conference and ranks 28
th in Division I.
Abdul-Latif broke Fordham’s 60-meter dash record at the Riverhawk Invitational. He finished in second place with a time of 6.86 seconds. The Bronx, N.Y. native also tied the school record for his efforts in the 200-meter dash. Abdul-Latif tied for first in the event and tied the school record with David Fajoyomi’s 2014 mark. His 200-meter time leads the A-10, and his 60-meter time ranks third.
Goode placed second in the 3000-meter run at the Dr. Sander Scorcher Columbia Challenge. Her time of 9:18.98 is a personal record by over 26 seconds and set a La Salle indoor program record. Goode, a Barry, Wales native, leads the conference and ranks 42
nd in Division I.
Watcke broke Loyola Chicago’s indoor mile record at the Notre Dame Invite. The Hinsdale, Ill. native finished second in the event with a time of 4:39.66. She broke the previous school record of 4:43.11 that was set by Anneka Murrin in 2021. Watcke’s time is first in the A-10 and 42
nd amongst Division I.
Hallgrimsdottir won the weight throw at the Brant Tolsma Invitational. Her distance of 67-11.75 ranks second in the conference and 23
rd in Division I.
Florou-Dimitriadou, who’s competing in her first season of indoor track and field, won the pole vault unseeded event with a mark of 13-07.25. She’s first in the conference for the pole vault and ranks tied for 32
nd in Division I.
