George Washington, Massachusetts Split Men's Swimming and Diving Honors; GW Sweeps Women's Swimming and Diving Awards

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Massachusetts junior Andrew Bell as its Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week and tabbed George Washington freshman Shae Stratton as its Rookie of the Week. George Washington junior Ava Topolewski earned Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, and her freshman teammate Natalie Sens received Rookie of the Week. The awards are for competitions from Jan. 3 to Jan. 13 and were announced on Tuesday.

In Massachusetts’ meet against Bryant, Bell earned two first place victories in the one-meter and three-meter dive events. Bell, a South Windsor, Conn. native, scored a 360.08 in the one-meter and 384.75 in the three-meter. Both scores rank second in the A-10. It’s Bell’s fourth weekly award honors.

Stratton competed in three events for George Washington in its tri-meet versus Pitt and West Virginia. He finished second in 200-yard backstroke (1:47.18), sixth in the 100-yard back (49.32) and helped the B-Relay team to a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:23.41). Stratton, a Boise, ID native, holds the fourth best time in the conference for the 200-back and 13th best in the 100-back.

Topolewski, who earned her third weekly award, swam to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard free in GW’s tri-meet against Pitt and West Virginia. She finished the 500-free at 4:48.91 and the 1,000-free at 9:58.30, which are both ranked second in the A-10. Topolewski, a Grand Prairie, Tx. native, assisted the GW 200-yard free relay to a third-place finish (1:33.48).

Sens finished in fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke for the Revolutionaries. She completed the 100-back at 1:03.19, which is eighth in the conference. Sens, a Pittsburgh, Pa. native, also earned a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard free (24.03). She helped GW to two, third place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.96) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.48).
