TYSONS, Va. -- No. 7 Saint Joseph's blasted four home runs and used a gem on the mound by Ryan DeSanto to rout No. 1 Saint Louis, 14-0, to advance to the consolation semifinals in the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship.
Ryan Cesarini destroyed two homers and went 4-for-4 with five RBI and a walk to lead the Hawks offensive effort while Owen Petrich (three hits and two RBI) and Tim Dickinson each also homered.
DeSanto pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing four hits and striking out 12 to hold the powerful Saint Louis bats at bay.
After leading 1-0 after the first, Saint Joseph's broke it open in the middle innings, scoring four in the third inning, five in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead. Ryan Picollo had the first big hit of the game with a two run single in the third. In the fourth, the long ball scored five runs for the Hawks as they lifted three dingers in four at bats off the bats of Cesarini, Petrich and Dikinson to get to double digits and go up 10-0.
The Hawks dominated the Billikens to continue their Championship run in the next game against No. 5 George Washington, tonight at 7:00 p.m. Saint Louis, the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champions, end their season at 37-16.
