TYSONS, Va. – Michael Foltz spun a gem, throwing a one-run complete game and pitching George Washington’s into the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship consolation semifinals. The fifth-seeded Revolutionaries topped No. 3 Dayton, 9-1, Thursday morning at Capital One Park.

GW (31-25) will face the winner of No. 7 Saint Joseph’s and No. 1 Saint Louis Thursday evening in the consolation semifinal. Dayton lost its second game in the double-elimination tournament and ends its season at 33-22.

Foltz allowed seven hits and struck out six in the nine inning outing, facing just six batters over the minimum and issuing just one walk. His only blemish was an RBI single by Alejandro Cazorla in the second inning, who drove in Eddie Yamin IV. Dayton scattered its seven hits among six batters, with Cazorla collecting a 2-3 performance.
Ryan Steinhauer took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits.

Five GW played had two hits as the Revolutionaries did most of their damage in the third and four innings, scoring three runs in each frame. The Revs took advantage of two Dayton errors to get runners in scoring position, including Sam Gates who led off the inning with a double and then moved to third and scored on the two miscues. A bases loaded walk to Tim Nicholson and RBI single by McGwire Tuffy scored Steve Ditomaso and Robby Wacker to round out the three runs.

A Brett Young triple in the fourth drove in Ditomao and Gates and Wacker’s ground out scored Young, who had a game-high three RBI, for the three runs in the fourth. That same group of players were also responsible for insurance runs for SJU in the seventh and eighth innings.
