Davidson Offensive Onslaught Propels 'Cats into Women's Lacrosse Semifinals

PITTSBURGH – Third-seeded Davidson turned in an offensive gem, topping No.6 George Mason 17-4 in the first round of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Rooney Field Thursday.

The Wildcats advance to face No. 2 Richmond at 3:00 pm Friday in the semifinals.

Davidson’s Jenna Skibbe tied the Atlantic 10 Championship record for goals in a game, tallying six on six shots for a perfect day. Brooke Ross had three goals for a hat trick. Julianne Carey recorded three assist to lead the ‘Cats.

Davidson (11-6) scored seven unanswered goals in the first quarter, including a pair from Riley Moore. Mason opened the second quarter with a tally from Danielle Jimenez, but the Wildcats scored six of the next seven goals for a 12-2 halftime lead.

Jimenez scored twice for the Patriots (10-8) to lead them in goals, and Mason scattered three assists across three players. The ‘Cats slowed their offense in the second half and won the back end of play 5-2 for the 17-4 final. Lauren Donofrio had three ground balls for George Mason and a trio of players, Dahlia Trippel, Melani Hutchinson and Shannon Tuozzo, each had two caused turnovers.

Both teams used to goalkeepers in the game, with Davidson combining for nine saves and the Mason pair stopping six shots. Davidson’s Alyssa Natoli had a game-high five ground balls, and Noelle Cegielski and Josie Lambert each had three caused turnovers.
