VCU Leads Golf Championship After Day Two; La Salle's Romanov Records Hole in One

ORLANDO, Fla. -- VCU extended is lead at the Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship to 20 strokes, carding  a 285 in a blustery second round Saturday at Evermore Orlando Resort. Rams freshman Grayson Wood surged into first place, shooting a tournament-high 67 on day two.

Wood has a two-day total of138 and is six under, two strokes ahead of Davidson’s Will Davis and day one leader Ugo Malcor from VCU, both of whom are at 140. Davis shot a 71 on Saturday and Malcor finished with a 72.
La Salle’s Nikita Romanov scored a hole-in-one on hole 17. Romanov surged 21 spots, to tie for 11th with the ace.

In additional to Wood and Malcor, VCU’s Mattias Varjun shots a 73 and is sitting fourth with a 142, and Tim Chan is tied for fifth with a 144 after carding a 75 Saturday. The Rams Veikka Viskari was the fifth golfer, tying for 13th with a 147, shooting a 73.

Davidson is in second place with a 582, shooting a 294. Joining Davis in the top 10 was Josh Stewart, who tied for fifth with a 144, carding a 73 in round two and Alex Heffner who was tied for eighth with a 145, with a 75 Saturday.

George Washington moved up to third with a 296 in round two for a 586 two-day total, followed by Dayton with a 300 in fourth (588 total) and George Mason in fifth, who also had a 300 on Saturday and a total of 595. GW’s Jed Dy is tied for eighth with a 145, notching a 74 in the second round. The Flyers Henry May is tied for fifth with a 144, climbing 10 spots in the standings with a 71 on day two.

Richmond is sixth with a 297 on day two for a total of 596 and La Salle is seventh with a 306 and a total of 608. St. Bonaventure (610), Rhode Island (611) and Loyola Chicago (613) occupy spots eight, nine and 10. Fordham and Saint Joseph’s round out the field. St. Bona’s Lance Sininger was the final top 10 finisher, carding a 75 Saturday for a 145, tying for eighth.

The third and final round begins Sunday morning at 7:30 am on the Cypress Course.
