WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized VCU senior Sarah Te-Biasu as the league’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Dayton freshman Eve Fiala locked down her first-ever Rookie laurels. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 13th week of contests played Jan. 29 – Feb. 4.
Te-Biasu averaged 20 points, 5.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds in VCU’s wins over Duquesne and George Washington this week. Against Duquesne, Te-Biasu made a career-high seven three-pointers, going 7-of-12 from deep. Overall on the week, she went 9-of-18 from three-point range (50-percent). The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native had 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win over Duquesne. Later in the week against George Washington, Te-Biasu had 14 points, four rebounds and six assists. With their two wins this week, VCU is off to the best start in school history at 19-3. The Rams stand at 8-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Fiala had a breakout week for the Flyers, averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 71.4 percent from the field. The freshman center recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against VCU Wednesday before adding 12 points and five rebounds in the overtime win at La Salle Sunday. The Indiana, Pa. native shot five-for-seven from the field in both games.
