Bamisile Named A-10 Player of the Week; Blums Chosen for Rookie Accolade

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named VCU graduate student Joe Bamisile its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Davidson freshman Roberts Blums chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 9-15.
 
Bamisile averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds in a pair of VCU victories last week. The guard from Chesterfield, Va., poured in 25 points, nine rebounds (five of which were on the offensive end) in a win over Colorado State Saturday. He shot 50 percent from the field (8-of-16) and from 3-point range (4-of-8) against the non-Atlantic 10 Rams. Earlier in the week he tallied a double-double, with 23 points and 11 rebounds with two blocks and two steals versus Penn.
 
Blums averaged 12.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats where he scored a season-high 13 points against crosstown rival Charlotte on Tuesday. The guard from Riga Latvia, shot 47.4 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc including a 4-of-8 (.500) effort from deep on Saturday against Detroit Mercy, scoring 12 points. He also added three assists in the two games.

Reed Bailey averaged 17.5 points per game ford Davidson, shooting 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the floor while grabbing 7 rebounds in each game … Javon Bennett led the Flyers to a come-from-behind win over No. 6 Marquette with 15 points on 6-of-9 (.667) shooting from the field, and 3-for-4 (.750) from beyond the arc with a +/- rating was +16, more than double anyone else on the team … Dayton freshman Amaël L'Etang scored five points, grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists in just 11 minutes off the bench in in the Marquette win … Jackie Johnson III scored a season-high 29 points in leading Fordham over Bryant with a career-best four steals and two assists … George Washington’s Trey Moss scored a season-high 19 points, including 13 in the first half in a win over Army, leading GW with five assists while adding two steals … GW freshman Christian Jones scored 11 points versus Army, his second-straight double figure performance, making 4-of-6 (.667) field goals, including 3-of-5 (.600) from beyond the arc … Deuce Jones reached double figures for the second straight game, scoring 13 points while adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in La Salle’s game versus North Carolina … Rhode Island’s Jamarques Lawrence averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal over two games, with 16 points and seven assists in a win over CCSU and 17 points and three assists versus Brown … Rhody freshman Tyonne Farrell averaged 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting .438 (7-for-16) from the field … Melvin Council Jr.  was named the Basketball Hall of Fame Basketball Showcase MVP after scoring game-high 24 points (10-for-19 FG, 2-3 3-pointers) along with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals … Saint Joseph’s Rasheer Fleming scored a career-high 26 points in the Hawks only game of the week, setting career bests with 10 field goals and four 3-pointers, shooting 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the floor overall … Robbie Avila led Saint Louis with 28 points in a close loss at Illinois State, scoring 21 of those points in the second half and finished 10-of-17 (.588) from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
