WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named La Salle sophomore Andrea Savoca and Massachusetts freshman Chase Keeler as its Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Fordham senior Ainhoa Martín and Richmond sophomore Melissa Nwakalor received Co-Women’s Swimming and Diving Player of the Week honors. Davidson freshman Ginny Thorsen earned Rookie of the Week.
Savoca swan to a first place finish in the 100-yard breast and the 200-breast for the Explorers at the 2024 Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens University of Charlotte. Savoca, an Aci Bonaccorsi, Italy native, finished the 100-breast and the 200-breast with times of 52.79 and 1:56.33, respectively. Both finishes are best in the A-10 this season. In addition, his 1:56:33 set a La Salle program record in the finals.
Keeler, a Laytonsville, Md. native, placed sixth in the 200 individual medley at the Terrier Invite for the Minutemen. Keeler’s time of 1:51.21 was a season-best. He swam to 11th with a personal-best time of 4:01.29 in the 400-IM, while claiming fifth in the 200-backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:49.11.
Nwakalor broke the 50-free A-10 record in her leg of the Spiders’ 200-free relay at the Patriot Invitational. She set a Richmond program record, conference record and broke her own person record with a time of 22.28 in the first leg of the relay. Nwakalor, a Columbia, Md. native, also swam to a first place finish in the 50-free (22.30) and tied for first in the 100-free (50.16). Both of her 50 and 100-free times are best in the conference.
Martín, an Usurbil, Spain native, swam to a victory in the 200-IM with a time of 1:59.50 for Fordham at the Bucknell Invitational. She also finished in second in the 200-breast (2:14.11) and third in the 400-IM (4:19.24). Martín placed in seventh for the 100-breast (1:03.37). Her 200-IM, 400-IM and 200-breast times are first in the A-10.
Thorsen earned a third-place finish for Davidson at the Bucknell Invitational. She placed in third with a time of 1:50.59 in the 200-free. Her 200-free time leads the conference. Thorsen, an Athens, Ga. native, swam to a ninth-place finish in the 1650-free event at 17:18.22. Her 1650-free time is fifth best in the A-10.
