NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Reigning Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer champion Saint Louis secured distinction as the preseason favorite entering the 2023 campaign, per the conference's annual Preseason Poll. Additionally, the league released the 11-man Preseason All-Conference team Monday morning in advance of the season's opening slate of matches set for this upcoming Thursday, Aug. 24.

The A-10 Preseason Poll and Preseason All-Conference team are voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Billikens head into the year a near-unanimous top overall selection in the poll, earning 195 total points behind 13 first-place votes. On the Preseason All-Conference team, A-10 first-team choice Christian Buendia along with fifth year transfer Diego Konincks served as lone SLU representatives. Under the direction of two-time defending A-10 Coach of the Year Kevin Kalish, Saint Louis scored the program's fourth-ever title this past season after composing a strong 12-5-3 regular-season mark with 6-1-1 run against league competition, edging past fourth-seeded Loyola Chicago in the Atlantic 10 Championship final via penalty kicks (3-2) before faltering to eventual national runner-up Indiana in the NCAA second round.

Dayton garnered second on the Preseason Poll, compiling 161 total points. Returning A-10 Rookie of the Year Basit Umar, a 2022 A-10 second-team pick, along with senior goalkeeper Dario Caetano rounded out the UD Preseason All-Conference selections. Dayton proved a tough out in the A-10 Championship semifinals a year ago following a notable 10-2-5 (3-2-3) run, initially earning a 1-1 draw against top-seeded Saint Louis before failing to advance on penalty kicks (3-1).

Loyola Chicago collected 154 total points en route to a No. 3 ranking in the poll, grabbing the final first-place vote along the way. The Ramblers put together a 9-2-7 (3-2-3) campaign in 2022, battling past No. 5 George Washington and second-seeded Duquesne before falling in dramatic fashion to No. 1 overall Saint Louis in the championship final via penalty kicks (3-2).

With 146 total points, VCU slotted in at fourth in the poll, posting a 3-8-6 (3-1-4) record for the season en route to the No. 3 position in the A-10 Championship. Duquesne, meanwhile, slid in just behind the Rams at fifth with 144 points. The Dukes managed to place forward Maxi Hopfer along with midfielder Ask Ekeland, both of whom registered All-Conference honors last year, on the Preseason All-Conference team as well.

Rhode Island grabbed the sixth position behind 131 points with Massachusetts (112) and Fordham (100) rounding out the predicted postseason crew. Notably, both the Minutemen and Fordham picked up one Preseason All-Conference selection apiece, as the former tabbed 2022 Co-Offensive Player of the Year Alec Hughes while the latter secured first-teamer Timo Hummrich.

Davidson and Saint Joseph's deadlocked at ninth with 75 points each while George Washington (60) and La Salle (52) logged 11th and 12th, respectively. George Mason (44) and St. Bonaventure (17) rounded out the poll.
