KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Duquesne's Maxi Hopfer earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch list for the upcoming 2023 season as a forward, announced by the organization today.
Hopfer was a second team All-Atlantic 10 and all-southeast region selection in 2022 after posting five goals and four assists in 19 starts for the Dukes. The Styria, Austria native enters the upcoming season ranking in DU's all-time top 10 in three different stat categories, including seventh in career goals (18), ninth in career points (46), and seventh in career game-winning goals (7).
Hopfer has garnered postseason recognition in each of his three seasons as a Duke with an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection in 2020, then a trio of honors in 2021 that featured first team all-conference, second team all-southeast region, and a spot on the All-ECAC team.
The lists are being released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2022, who are scheduled to return for the 2023 season. Duquesne will begin its 2023 season next Thursday (August 24) at James Madison, as they compete in the Fairfield Inn by Marriott Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. The Dukes will be on Rooney Field for the first time the following Thursday (August 31) hosting Bowling Green. All regular season home games are free entry at Rooney Field.
