RICHMOND, Va. – Headlined by a six-goal effort from Lindsey Frank, second-seeded Richmond powered past No. 1 overall Massachusetts in the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship final, utilizing a shutdown defensive performance throughout the second half to dispatch the Minutewomen via a final 20-13 mark Sunday afternoon at Cary Street Field.

Victory in hand, the Spiders secure the program's sixth-ever women's lacrosse title as well as the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament; selections for the national championship are determined later this evening at 9 p.m. with the event kicking off Friday, May 12.

The 2023 All-Championship team featured Richmond standouts Emilie Bloyer, Sophia DiCenso, Lindsey Frank, Jordyn Harrison and Arden Tierney along with Massachusetts' Kylee Bowen, Alex Finn, Fiona McGowan and Audra Tosone, Saint Joseph's Kate Fuhrman and Bonnie Yu and Davidson's Erin Cooke. Frank earned recognition as the Most Outstanding Player, concluding the championship with eight goals, five assists, 13 draw controls and three grounds balls.

Sparked by an initial 3-0 run to start the match, the Spiders held firm throughout a back-and-forth opening half, falling behind on three separate occasions by just a single goal only to rally to a one-score edge entering the midway break.

Richmond again came out of the gate hot, tacking on two more goals to kick off the third, before generating six unanswered over the course of just over nine minutes between the third and fourth quarters. Notably, Frank played a pivotal role in the 6-0 stretch as the senior launched the offensive with a hat trick between the 2:59 and 1:15 mark in the penultimate period.

UMass attempted a late rally in the fourth, scoring three of the final five points, but a resilient Spider defense kept the Minutewomen at bay.

Statistically, Frank was assisted by a pair of hat trick showings from Colleen Quinn and Arden Tierney while a trio of Spiders – Ali Susskind, Sophia DiCenso and Kendall Duffy – added two goals apiece as well. Bloyer posted a strong effort in the cage as well, swiping 11 saves with the 13 goals allowed.

For Massachusetts, both Amy Moreau – the A-10 Midfielder of the Year – and Kylee Bowen secured hat tricks on the day while both Charlotte Wilmoth and Alex Finn garnered two-goal outings.
