RICHMOND, Va. – Sparked by an unanswered four-goal surge from Kate Fuhrman across the opening six-and-a-half minutes, third-seeded Saint Joseph's powered past No. 6 St. Bonaventure in the quarterfinal round of Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship, downing the Bonnies behind a season-high scoring mark, 20-8, late Thursday afternoon at Cary Street Field.
Victory in hand, the Hawks continue their title defense with a semifinals rematch against second-seeded Richmond, taking on the Spiders Friday afternoon at 3 pm.
Fuhrman notched the match's first four goals all within the opening 7:24 as the Hawks vaulted to a 7-0 edge, surrendering their first score of the contest with just a second left in the first quarter for a six-goal advantage. St. Joe's maintained the pressure throughout the first half, entering the midway break boasting a 12-4 lead.
Fuhrman added her fifth and final goal in the third quarter, matching a career high for the A-10 All-Rookie selection, while Bonnie Yu generated a second-half hat trick as well. Bona found some traction in the fourth, scoring three of their four second-half goals, but the SJU edge proved too insurmountable down the stretch.
In addition to both Fuhrman and Yu, Emma O'Neill contributed hat trick to the Hawks' offensive effort while four SJU student-athletes – Alexa Capozzoli, Maddie Yoder, Ellie Webb and Maggie Davidson – tallied two goals apiece as well. Jorden Concordia proved a menace in the cage for St. Joe's, grabbing nine saves while allowing just seven scores on the day.
For the Bonnies, Fiona McGovern led the way offensively with a team-best two goals with Ashley Herrick and Hayley McIntyre tag-teaming the in-goal efforts, swiping a combined nine saves.
