RICHMOND, Va. – Second-seeded Richmond used a dominant offensive performance, spurred by five goals and three assists from Dalton Young to defeat No. 3 Massachusetts, 15-8 in the 2023 Atlantic 10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship semifinals at Robins Stadium.
Richmond will face No. 4 High Point Saturday for the A-10 crown and NCAA Tournament bid. The Panthers upset regular season champion Saint Joseph’s in the first semifinal. Saturday’s final, the inaugural Atlantic 10 title game, begins at noon.
Young, the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, had a hand in three of the Spiders’ first four goals, establishing an offensive cadence for the Spiders that resulted in UR outscoring the Minutemen in each of the first three quarters. Richmond had 45 total shots, 31 of which were on goal. The Spider defense was also on point, with 10 caused turnovers, with Jake Saunders registering a game-high three. Jared Chenoy had six ground balls for UR and goalkeeper Zach Vigue recorded 11 saves.
Mike Tobin paced the UMass scoring with three goals and one assist. Caleb Hammett had a game-high 11 ground balls and A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Matt Knote made 16 saves in net.
