Saint Joseph’s Clinches First-Ever #A10BASE Regular-Season Title, Locks Down Top Seed for Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s cemented the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season title and will serve as the No. 1 overall seed entering next week’s A-10 Baseball Championship at The Diamond in Richmond, Va. The seven-team, double-elimination tournament begins Tuesday, May 23 and will conclude with the championship final on Saturday, May 27, all streamed live via ESPN+.
 
The Hawks concluded the 2023 campaign with a 27-22-1overall mark along with a solid 17-7 record in conference competition, scoring two critical victories during the final weekend of play en route to the program’s first-ever Atlantic 10 regular-season title. Saint Joseph’s receives a bye into the second round and will open championship play against the winner between No. 4 Saint Louis and fifth-seeded Richmond on Wednesday, May 24, first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m.
 
Davidson, the defending regular-season champion, slotted into the No. 2 overall seed within the tournament, finishing with a 29-22 record and 15-8 mark in league play. The Wildcats will see their first action of the championship at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, taking on seventh-seeded Rhode Island in the opening round. The Rams closed out their year with an 13-11 mark in A-10 competition and 23-27 overall, sweeping reigning A-10 champion VCU in order to clinch the final postseason berth.
 
Dayton (24-32) garnered the third overall seed via a 15-9 record in league play and will square off against No. 6 George Mason (29-24, 13-10 A-10) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 in the opening round. Meanwhile, Saint Louis (30-21) locked down the No. 4 overall seed behind a 15-9 record within conference competition, and will battle fifth-seeded Richmond (26-26, 14-9 A-10) at 11:00 a.m. in Tuesday’s championship opener for the right to challenge the top-seeded Hawks in the second round.
 
The Flyers earned the No. 3 seed over SLU via a head-to-head tiebreaker, winning two-of-three during a weekend series against the Billikens on April 22-23.
 
The winner of the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which opens Friday, June 2.
