KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Davidson holds a four-stroke lead while two strokes separate the top four individual scores after the first round of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship at Reunion Resort’s Nicklaus Course.
 
The defending champion Wildcats finished at four-under 284, four strokes ahead of second-place VCU, which shot a 288. Davidson had a big lead midway through the round, establishing an eight-stroke cushion before VCU and third-place Loyola Chicago closed the gap.
The Ramblers are one over, carding a 289, five strokes off the lead while Rhode Island is fourth (292) and George Washington is fifth (293) following day one.
 
Davidson’s Will Davis and Dayton’s Ben Cors are tied for first with a four-under 68. Alex Heffner from Davidson ranks third at 69 and the Ramblers’ Sebastian Kasun closed out with a two-under 70.
 
The second round begins Saturday at 7:30 am with a double tee format off of holes 1 and 10. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to conclude Sunday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
 
There were six players that shot a one-under 71 to and are knotted up in fifth place, three of whom came from VCU (Mattias Varjun, Ugo Malcor and Jayce Hargrove). Rhode Island’s Brandon Gillis, Erik Stauderman of St. Bonaventure and George Mason’s Colin Slater were also part of the six-way tie.
 
Dayton sits at six over with a 294 and in sixth place, followed by a three-way tie between Fordham, George Mason and Richmond at 297. St. Bonaventure (303), La Salle (307) and Saint Joseph’s (309) rounded out the team scoring.
 
There were two Eagles in the first round, one by Loyola Chicago’s Tyler Anderson, who scored a two on the par four No. 1. The other came off the club of Jake Mrva of Fordham, who shot a three on the par five No. 6.
