GENEVA, Ohio – For the second straight year, George Washington raised the Atlantic Women's Swimming and Diving Championship trophy, collecting the program's third-ever title via 794.5 points Saturday evening at SPIRE Institute.

The Colonials represented half of the eight new league records on the women's side, including the 800 freestyle relay, the 1,650 freestyle and both the 200 and 400 individual medleys.

After taking an opening day lead, GW extended its advantage across the remaining three days of competition, more than doubling their day one to two edge (42 to 95) before jumping ahead by 239.5 entering Saturday. Collecting 794.5 points for all four days, the Colonials concluded the meet with a separation of 315, topping second overall Richmond (479.5) to cement the win.

George Mason (414) trailed at third with Duquesne (413.5) and Fordham (413) sliding in at fourth and fifth, respectively. Davidson logged sixth overall behind 310 points with Massachusetts garnering the No. 7 spot via an 255 mark. La Salle (218.5) and St. Bonaventure (190) grabbed eighth and ninth while Saint Louis (119) and Rhode Island (83) rounded out the standings.

GW acted as the primary record-breaking force at the A-10 Championships, resetting the top mark in the following events (in order): 800 freestyle relay by 2.81 seconds behind the crew of Phoebe Wright, Siena Senn, Julia Knox and Molly Smyers; 200 individual medley by .08 seconds via the efforts of Knox; 400 individual medley by 1.83 seconds off the work of Knox once again, this time in the prelims; and the 1,650 freestyle by 4.3 seconds via Ava Topolewski.

The other four new records fell to the George Mason's 400 medley relay squad, who notched a 3:36.40 mark to beat out the previous best by over a full second, Richmond's 200 medley relay crew, who posted a 1:39.30 time en route to a new best by .18 seconds, and the Patriots' Jacquee Clabeaux, who earned the first-ever sub-minute mark in the 100 breaststroke at :59.81 while also topping the all-time performance list in the 200 breaststroke by a .16-second margin.

For her efforts overall, Clabeaux captured the Women's Most Outstanding Performer honor while Duquesne's Amy Read snared the Most Outstanding Female Diver accolade. Wright earned the Women's Rookie of the Year award.

For the Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, George Washington's Brian Thomas collected the distcintion; meanwhile, Duquesne assistant Jeanine Stright garnered the Women's Diving Coach of the Year honor.

DAY FOUR HIGHLIGHTS
  • The evening finals kicked off with some flair as Topolewski snapped the 1,650 freestyle mark by just over four seconds, earning the gold in the process. Smyers grabbed the silver while Fordham senior Clare Culver rounded out the podium.

  • George Mason sophomore Ali Tyler continued her standout run at the A-10 Championships, securing yet another gold medal in the 200 backstroke; notably, her 1:55.79 mark now ranks in a tie for third on the all-time performance list.

  • Clabeaux, who already reset the league top mark in the 100 breaststroke earlier this week, managed to replicate her results in the 200 breaststroke as well, notching a 2:11.27 time for a George Mason gold medal. The other podium finishers in the event – Fordham sophomore Ainhoa Martin along with Knox – also clinched positions in the A-10 top five, as the former moved to third off a 2:11.98 mark while the latter secured fifth via a 2:12.39 showing.

  • In yet another thrilling finish to the day's events, the A-10 women's 400 medley relay record was crushed by both the Patriots and Colonials crews; the Mason team of Tyler, Clabeaux, Abigail Murtaugh and Emma De Jong, however, managed to outpace their GW counterparts for the top position, finishing in a 3:36.40 mark. George Washington's group of Schaal, Ava DeAngelis, Moriah Freitas and Wright clocked a 3:37.05 time, topping the previous best by nearly a second en route to a silver medal.
