St. Bonaventure's Adams-Woods; Saint Joseph's Brown Garner Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named St. Bonaventure graduate student Mika Adams-Woods and Saint Joseph's freshman Xzayvier Brown its Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played the week of Dec. 4-10.

Adams-Woods had one of the best shooting performances in recent memory over the past two Bonnies games, going 19-for-20 from the floor and a perfect 9-for-9 from beyond the arc in wins over Niagara and Siena. At Niagara, the guard posted 25 points and five assists, notching a new career-high in scoring. The Syracuse native missed his first field goal attempt at Niagara, but it would be his only miss of the week as he would go on to make his next 19 tries from the floor. In a Franciscan Cup win over Siena, he poured in a game-high 23 points on 9-9 shooting including 4-4 from deep. Nationally, Adams-Woods had the best shooting percentage last week of any player attempting 12 or more field goals. For the season, Adams-Woods leads the Bonnies by averaging 16.0 points and 4.3 assists per contest while his 61.4 field goal percentage ranks fifth among all Atlantic 10 players.

Helping the Hawks to a 2-0 record on the week, Brown averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 58.8 percent from the floor, including 55.6 percent from distance. Leading SJU to a victory over American, Brown scored a team-best 20 points to got with two assists, a rebound and a steal. He followed with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in a victory over previously-unbeaten Princeton.

Grant Huffman had a complete week, averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in two Davidson victories …  DaRon Holmes had a monster game versus Troy, recording a 23-point, 17 rebound double-double, with four assists, three blocks and a steal in the Dayton win … Jimmy Clark III had 24 points at Marshall, shooting 7-of-11 (.636) from the field with four 3-pointers, part of a 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game 2-0 week for Duquesne … George Mason freshman Baraka Okojie had 11 points on 3-of-5 (.600) shooting, including two made triples at Tennessee … GW freshman Darren Buchanan, Jr,. Had a consistent week, scoring 14 points in each win last week, adding eight rebounds against Coppin State and three assists and a steal versus Navy … Loyola Chicago’s Jayden Dawson scored 26 points on eight 3-pointers  with seven assists, two assists and two steals at Tulsa … Ramblers freshman Trey Lewis scored 10 points with three assists in the win over Goshen … Rhode Island’s Jaden House averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists over two games, with 16 points against Brown and 12 at Charleston … Rhody freshman David Fuchs had 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal against Brown … Richmond freshman Mikkel Tyne had 16 points with five made threes in the Spiders game versus Florida … Bonnies freshman Barry Evans grabbed 10 rebounds and had two blocks in the win over rival Niagara … Erik Reynolds II averaged 17.5 points and 3.5 assists for Saint Joseph’s 2-0 week, including 21 points in a key win over Princeton … Gibson Jimerson had back-to-back 20 point games in a split week for Saint Louis, with 23 points at Drake followed by 21 points in a win over Hofstra … Billiken freshman Cian Medley dished out eight assists last week, wile also tallying 11 points in two games for SLU … VCU freshman Fats Billups III averaged 11.5 points and 2.0 assists for the Rams in two games last week, with 13 points versus Memphis and 10 points in a win over Alcorn State.
