‘Cats’ Morgan Scratches First A-10 Player of the Week, Double-Doubles Propel Doogan to Rookie

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference distinguished Davidson sophomore Issy Morgan as the league’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Richmond freshman Maggie Doogan claimed her first-ever Rookie of the Week laurels. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 11th week of contests played Jan. 16-22.
 
Morgan, a foreign import out of Sydney, Australia, averaged 19.0 points per game across an unbeaten 2-0 stretch for the Wildcats, scoring a team-best 18 points at VCU on Wednesday and a career-high 20 points during a 66-65 barn burner victory over Duquesne on Sunday. The sophomore shot 60 percent (12-of-20) overall and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc, including a quartet of ranged buckets against the Dukes, while also dishing out a total seven assists and pulling down 10 boards.
 
Doogan recorded back-to-back double-doubles en route to averaging 15.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game throughout a split 1-1 week for Richmond, initially falling short at undefeated Rhode Island before later knocking off George Mason back at home. In Wednesday’s matchup at the Rams, the Broomall, Pa., product recorded a team-high 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in addition to three assists, setting up a stellar performance in her first career start in the 73-58 win versus the Patriots on Saturday. During that contest, Doogan paced the Spiders with a career-best 18 points along with 12 boards, three blocks and an assist.

Anna DeWolfe contributed 25.5 points per game, including a brilliant 33-point performance against UMass on Wednesday, across a 1-1 week for Fordham, shooting a competitive 52.8 percent. (19-of-36) overall while dropping 11-of-23 (.478) from deep … George Washington’s Mia Lakstigala put up 17.5 points with 5.5 boards as the Colonials earned a split 1-1 record for the week, initially faltering at rival George Mason before ousting VCU back at home … GW freshman Nya Robertson tacked on 11.0 points with 3.5 rebounds and three total assists for the Colonials as well … Sonia Smith proved invaluable for George Mason as the Patriots logged a split 1-1 this week, registering 20 points in Monday’s rivalry win over GW before adding 13 more in Saturday’s loss at Richmond … Mason’s Nalani Kaysia logged a consistent week behind 13.5 points and 7.0 boards per game, bolstering the Patriots to a 1-1 mark … La Salle senior Claire Jacobs dropped 14.5 points per game while pulling down 5.5 rebounds as the Explorers powered to a back-to-back wins, initially topping rival Saint Joseph’s before claiming a victory on the road at Loyola Chicago … Mia Jacobs, Claire’s sister, contributed 12.5 points and 7.5 boards for La Salle as well … Loyola Chicago’s Sitori Tanin put up eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field in a home loss to La Salle … Ramblers’ freshman Mallory Ramage tacked on nine points with three boards for Loyola as well … Sam Breen posted a solid week en route to a back-to-back victories for Massachusetts, recording a pair of double-doubles for an average of 14.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in addition to six total assists … UMass senior Sydney Taylor also put together a notable showing for the Minutewomen, tacking on 20.0 points per game, highlighted by a lethal 30 points in Sunday’s win over Dayton, with four assists as well … Rhode Island’s Dolly Cairns paced the Rams to another pair of wins behind a solid shooting effort, averaging 12.5 points on a decisive 7-of-13 (.538) shooting percentage from beyond the arc … Rhody freshman Ines Debroise tallied 8.5 points for the Rams in addition to dishing out a team-best nine assists for the week … I’yanna Lops compiled 15.0 points per game with 4.5 boards and a total seven blocks as St. Bonaventure fought to a 1-1 split on the week, notably leading the team to its first league victory over Dayton on Thursday … St. Bonaventure’s Breauna Ware contributed 9.5 points with seven total assists for the Bonnies as well … Saint Joseph’s sophomore Talya Brugler finished 13-of-19 (.684) from the field for an 18.5 points per game average as the Hawks suffered a pair of tight losses … Laura Ziegler added 9.5 points with 8.0 boards per game for SJU as well, not to mention five total blocks with three assists … VCU’s Sarah Te-Biasu composed a notable 22.5 points per game, including a brilliant 30-point outing in Wednesday’s loss to Davidson, with five total assists and two steals.
