WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 has named Kristi Vera as its Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officiating, the league announced on Monday. In this position, Vera will oversee all aspects of officiating for Atlantic 10 women’s basketball, including regular season and conference championship officiating assignments and game evaluation.
No stranger to the league, Vera previously assisted former A-10 Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officiating Debbie Williamson as associate supervisor. As part of her duties, Vera was responsible for the scheduling and evaluation of officials while also seeking out strong, new officials for the conference.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kristi as the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials,” said A-10 Commissioner Dan Leibovitz. “Kristi has built a strong reputation throughout women’s basketball through her professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence. The Atlantic 10 is one of the nation’s top women’s basketball conferences, and we are confident Kristi’s experience and leadership will continue to strengthen an officiating program that supports our student-athletes, coaches, and member institutions.”
Vera spent more than 28 years as an official, working in 11 different leagues throughout her career including 17 years in the Atlantic 10. Her officiating resumé includes experience at the highest stages of women’s basketball, working the NCAA Tournament eight times.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Commissioner Dan Leibovitz and Associate Commissioner Candy Cage for giving me this opportunity to supervise the Atlantic 10 women’s basketball officials,” said Vera. “I’d also like to thank my predecessor, Debbie Williamson, for her mentorship over the last three years after I came off the floor and joined her staff.
“The A-10 has been good to me, both on and off the floor,” Vera added. “The league was vital in promoting me, helping me develop as a leader, and propelling me into the NCAA Tournament. I am excited to continue with a league that competes with the best and produces quality student-athletes and coaches with high basketball IQ.”
