TUCSON, Ariz. – Davidson catcher Michael Carico, the national leader in on-base percentage and Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, earned distinction as a member of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's All-American Second Team, the publication announced Thursday.
 
The sophomore from Kernersville, N.C., secured serves as first Wildcat All-American since outfielder Will Robertson in 2017.
 
"Mike had an incredible season," Davidson head coach Rucker Taylor said. "His numbers show that, and his impact on each game, our season and program go well beyond the numbers. He is an outstanding person, teammate and representative of Davidson College and our baseball program. We are thrilled Mike is getting this recognition."
 
Carico, the consistent leadoff hitter for the 'Cats, compiled a record-breaking second season for Davidson, who won 43 games and the program's first outright regular-season conference championship. He set program single-season marks with the .559 on-base percentage, an .843 slugging percentage, 21 home runs, 71 runs scored, 166 total bases, 43 extra-base hits and 26 hit-by-pitches.
 
He hit .406, which was second in the A-10 and seventh nationally, and led the league in home runs, slugging percentage, hit-by-pitches and with 46 walks and a 1.402 OPS.
 
In the national rankings, he was third in slugging percentage and seventh in average.
 
Carico also hit 21 doubles and drove in 57 runs. He had 26 multi-hit games, including four four-hit performances, and 17 games with multiple RBIs, including a high of six in a two-homer game at Radford in April. He finished the season on a 15-game reached-base streak.
