KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Davidson shot the low round of the Atlantic 10 Championship to finish with a 13-under 851 and win its second straight A-10 title Sunday afternoon at the Watson Course at Reunion Resort.
The Wildcats, who earn the league's automatic bid to NCAA Regionals, carded a 279, with three players posting final rounds of 70 or better. Most Outstanding Rookie Performer Will Davis, Viraj Garwal and A-10 Player of the Year Alex Heffner finished in the top five to help left Davidson to the title, their third Atlantic 10 title overall.
VCU's Adrian Vagberg earned medalist honors with a 209 (72-69-68), seven under par thanks to a pair of sub-70 rounds on day two and day three. The Rams' Kristian Tannum Donaldson, who led the field after shooting a tournament-low round of 67, also finished in the top five, carding a 213 (67-75-71). Donaldson earned All-Conference honors. VCU finished second as a team, scoring an 11-under 853 (284-284-285). First-year head coach Andy Walker was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
George Mason (one-under 863) placed third, the highest finish in league history for the Patriots. Richmond and George Washington each tallied an 865 to tie for fourth. Dayton and Rhode Island also tied, sharing sixth place with an 869. St. Bonaventure (882), Fordham (904), La Salle (908) and Saint Joseph's (932) rounded out the field.
Davis, who was also named the Rookie of the Year, placed second with a five-under 211 (72-69-70), while Garewal (73-71-68) and Heffner (71-73-68), both of whom were named All-Conference, tied for third for Davidson with a 212.
The All-Conference team, which is voted on by the head coaches based on the regular season, included Donaldson, Garewal and Heffner, as well as Clayton Tribus of Davidson, Dayton's Ryan Clements, J.P. Miller and Will Halamandaris of George Mason, Bryson Richards from Rhode Island, Richmond's Cole Ekert and VCU's Mikkel Antonsen.
