VCU, Tannum Donaldson Open Strong, Lead A-10 Golf Championship First Round

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – VCU took advantage of a five-under 67 by graduate student Kristian Tannum Donaldson to lead the 2022 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship with a 284 (-4) following Friday's first round at Reunion Resort's Watson Course.
 
The Rams hold a slight edge over Rhode Island, which shot a 285 (-3) Friday, surging late to surpass third-place Davidson. The defending champion Wildcats scored a 286 (-2) on the first day.
 
Tannum Donaldson holds a two-stroke lead over second-place P.J. O'Rourke from Fordham, who carded a 69. Tannum Donaldson recorded six birdies in the round while O'Rourke had a -round-high seven birdies. George Mason's Seth Conway who tied for the round-high with 16 pars, is in third place with a two-under 70.
 
VCU's Joe Retford and Adrian Vagberg tied for 10th with a 72, and Mikkel Antonsen shot a 73 to tie for 20th. Charlie Kennedy finished with a 76 for the Rams.
 
Rhode Island's Austin Fox , Brandon Gillis and Bryson Richards all tied for fourth with a 71, while Rhody's Jordan Brajcich tied for 10th with a 72. Andrew DePetrillo shot an 86 to close out URI's scoring. Davidson's Ethan Hall and Alex Heffner also tied for fourth with the 71, and Will Davis and Clayton Tribus tied for 10th with 72s. Viraj Garewal scored a 73 to tie for 20th for the Wildcats.
 
George Mason and St. Bonaventure tied for fourth with a 291, and Richmond carded a four-over 292 to place sixth. George Washington was seventh with a 293, followed by Dayton at 299 and Fordham at 301. La Salle (309) and Saint Joseph's (318) rounded out the team scores for day one.
 
Round two begins at 7:00 am Saturday off of No. 1 tee.
