WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its monthly honors for September in men’s golf.
 
Co-Golfer of the Month: JJ Powell (Sr., Midlothian, Va.), George Mason
Co-Golfer of the Month: Tanner Cadieux (Jr., Greensboro, N.C.), VCU
Rookie of the Month: Griffin Cheatwood (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.), Davidson
 
JJ Powell played in just one tournament with the Patriots in September, but he certainly left an impression as the senior shot 10-under-par 134 to win medalist honors by three strokes at the Rod Myers Duke Invitational. Powell’s 10-under-par score for 36 holes is the second-best score in program history, and his second-round 66 (-6) is the seventh-lowest round by a Patriots golfer. The senior led the 81-player field with 13 birdies, including nine in the second round that included six in a row on the final nine as he romped to the victory.
 
Tanner Cadieux played in two tournaments and totaled six tournament rounds in September, going under par in four of them and even par in a fifth. Overall, the Rams junior had a stroke average of 70.0 for the six rounds and was a combined 9-under-par. Cadieux started the fall tying for 20th out of 80 golfers at the Resort Island Collegiate, and then a week later he tied for third in a field of 84 golfers and led VCU to the team title at the Redhawk Intercollegiate hosted by Miami (Ohio). Cadieux shot 73-70-71—214 (-2) at the Resort Island event and 69-71-66—206 (-7) at the Redhawk.
 
Griffin Cheatwood played in three events for Davidson in September and had a 71.2 stroke average across eight tournament rounds, finishing a combined 3-under-par. He certainly made a splash in his first collegiate tournament, sandwiching a pair of 67s around a second-round 72 to finish at 10-under-par 206 and tying for second among 84 golfers at the Bryan Run Collegiate. The freshman broke par two more times at the River Run Collegiate, leading the field much of the way before tying for eighth out of 75 golfers.
