AMHERST, Mass. – Third-seeded Saint Joseph's (12-6) composed a commanding effort throughout the second A-10 Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinal against No. 6 George Washington (5-13), outpacing the Colonials behind a 15-9 mark Thursday afternoon at Garber Field.
With the win, the Hawks advance to A-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship semifinals, squaring off against second-seeded Richmond at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, April 29. The contest will be broadcast live via ESPN+.
Saint Joseph's bolted out the gate with a quick goal at the 12:53 mark, grabbing an early advantage before doubling that with another score at 4:42 left in the quarter. Following a GW goal to close the gap, the Hawks offense once again came alive, scoring three times in relatively quick successions to establish a more comfortable edge heading down the stretch.
The remainder of the contest would continue in much the same pattern, with George Washington finding the net once before the Hawks would counter with multiple goals of their own. At halftime, SJU led by a four-point margin on GW, a margin the Colonials would not be able to narrow any further over the final two quarters.
Offensively, A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Lauren Figura put together a notable performance with a hat trick while teammate and second-team All-Conference selection Riley Evans paced the squad with four goals of her own. George Washington saw three players – Lizzie Heyn, Tori Hampton and Kendall Lambert – put up two scores apiece.
In the cage, both Saint Joseph's keeper Jorden Concordia along with GW netminder Megan Patrick posted competitive performances, swiping 10 saves apiece. For the Hawks, graduate student Taylor Newman-Farr stood out as well, as the midfielder scooped six ground balls while causing six turnovers as well.
