NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference selected VCU junior Mattias Varjun as its Golfer of the Week. Dayton freshman Jacob Garland was named Rookie of the Week. The awards are for tournaments played from Oct. 13-19.
 
Varjun logged his second straight top-10 effort and fourth top-15 finish of the fall season. He placed second at Little Rock, one stroke behind the eventual individual medalist, scoring a 209 (68-69-72). A Tallinn, Estonia, product, he led VCU to a second place finish in the 16-team field.
 
Garland was second in team scoring for Dayton at its annual Flyer Invitational Monday and Tuesday, two strokes behind team-leader Ben Cors. He carded an even-par round of 71 on the first 18, his fifth even-par or better round of the fall and finished with a 227 (71-76-80). Garland, a Nashville, Tenn. native, tied for 27th place among the field of 83 competitors.
