NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Fordham junior Anna DeWolfe as the league’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Saint Joseph’s freshman Talya Brugler garnered her third overall – now a fifth consecutive for the Hawks – Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 12th week of contests played Jan. 24-30.
DeWolfe, a guard out of Cumberland, Maine, guided Fordham to a pair of home victories over Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure this past week, closing out the successful 2-0 stretch averaging 21.0 points and 1.5 rebounds with a total seven assists and three steals as well. The junior dropped a game-high 22 on in Wednesday’s clash with the Hawks behind a 10-of-19 (.526) shooting performance with four assists and two steals before registering her 13th 20-point game of the year on Saturday, adding three more dimes, a steal and a block against the Bonnies.
Brugler served as a key component for Saint Joseph’s throughout back-to-back tough league matchups, racking up a team-best 11 points against both Fordham and Massachusetts while contributing 5.0 rebounds per game and three total assists. The Nazareth, Pa., native shot 43.8 percent (7-of-16) overall, 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from long range and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) at the charity stripe.
