George Washington Sweeps Final #A10SB Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington's Jenna Cone its Softball Player of the Week, while teammates Sierra Lange and Alexa Williams earned Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Biosteel, are for the final week of the regular season.

Cone put together another tremendous weekend at the plate in GW's sweep at St. Bonaventure, posting a .571/.824/1.429 slash line with two home runs, five RBIs and eight runs scored. A graduate-student from  Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Cone reached base multiple times in all four games thanks to four hits, nine walks and an HBP. She started the series with a two-home run effort, finishing 2-for-2 with two long balls, three RBIs and three runs scored in an 11-1 victory. She added two more RBIs and two more runs scored as part of a 13-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader. After going 1-for-3 with a walk in a 6-0 win to start Sunday, Cone set a program record with five walks in the series finale and scored three times.

Lange went 2-0 in GW's sweep of St. Bonaventure while pitching to a 0.50 ERA across 14 innings with 23 strikeouts. The redshirt junior from Plano, Texas, recorded 12 of 15 outs via strikeouts in the opener, allowing one run on four hits in an 11-1 run-rule victory. In Sunday's opener, she tossed a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 6-0 victory. She returned to the circle in a relief appearance in the series finale with two more perfect innings.

Williams hit .615 (8-for-13) with a pair of three-hit efforts in GW's sweep at St. Bonaventure. The first-year from El Cajon, Calif., drove in seven runs and scored three times. She started the weekend by going 5-for-5 across Saturday's doubleheader, highlighted by a four-RBI performance in an 11-1 run-rule win to open the series. In Sunday's finale, she went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, plus a steal, in a 14-5 win.
