Strong Day 2 Puts Davidson in First at Golf Championship; Francoeur Atop Leaderboard

ORLANDO – Davidson shot a 12-under par 276 on Saturday to jump into first place after the 2021 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship Second Round at Reunion Resort's Nicklaus Course. Rhode Island's Chris Francoeur moved to the top of the individual leaderboard after carding a 68 for a two-day total of 139.

The Wildcats began the second round in third place, but four of its five Saturday scores were below par, including Viraj Garewal who improved by 10 strokes over day 1 to shoot a 68. Brian Garrett and Alex Ross each scored a 69 on day two and Clayton Tribus, who leads Davidson and is tied for third overall with a 143, tallied a 70 on Saturday. Alex Heffner finished with a 75, putting him tied for seventh at 145, just behind of sixth-place Ross' 144. The 'Cats two-round total is 572, good for a five-stroke lead on Rhode Island.

Francoeur's low round kept Rhody in second place with a 577 two-day total. Brandon Gilis recorded a 71 and Andrew DiPetrillo a 72 Saturday. Jordan Brajcich, who is tied for third overall, had a 73 to bring his total to 143.
Day one leader Henry May currently sits in second with a 141 after shooting a 74 Saturday. May leads third-place Dayton, which is at 580. Connor Quigley is tied for seventh and Kyle Schmidt is tied for 10th after both equaled May with a 74.

VCU bettered its second-day score by 17 strokes, tallying a 282 Saturday to sit in fourth with a total of 581. Mikkel Antonsen moved into a tie for 10th by posting a tournament low round of 66 on day two, an improvement of 14 strokes. Joe Retford leads VCU and is tied for third with a 143 after carding a 67, a nine-shot improvement over day one.

St. Bonaventure and George Mason are tied for fifth at 593, with the Bonnies shooting a 290 and the Patriots a 294 on Saturday. Richmond is seventh at 595, with Lou Baker holding on to a top-10 spot, with a 146 (75-71) to tie for 10th. Hugo Ribound from George Washington also sits among the top 10 with a 145 (72-73) to help the Colonials into eighth place with a 598. Fordham currently is in ninth place with a 619, and La Salle is in 10th with a 621.

The final round will begin Sunday at 8:50 am. La Salle, Fordham and St. Bonaventure tee off first.
