NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton men's soccer finished with 13 points in the Atlantic 10 regular season to win the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title and the West Division and will serve as the host and No. 1 seed for the 2020-21 A-10 Men's Soccer Championship, which begins Thursday at UD's Baujan Field.
Fordham captured the North Division with 11 points and will be seeded third for the championship. George Washington finished with 11 points as well to win the Central Division and is the No. 4 seed. Fordham earns the three seed over GW based on a goal differential tiebreaker. Saint Louis, which finished with 12 points, earned a spot in the championship as a wild card and will be the No. 2 seed based on points.
The Flyers finished at 4-1-1 in league play, and 4-3-1 overall. UD is led by Jonas Fjeldberg, with five goals and four assists for 14 points, and Kingsford Adjei with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Marc Kouadio posted a .93 goals against average and made 33 saves this season.
Dayton will open the championship against George Washington in the first semifinal Thursday, April 15 at noon ET. Oscar Haynes Brown leads the Colonials with 10 points on five goals, combined with a team-high four assists from Tom Cooklin. Goalkeeper Justin Grady allowed five goals in eight games for a .58 goals against average with 30 saves. GW was 3-1-2 in the Atlantic 10 and 4-2-2 overall.
No. 2 Saint Louis finished with 12 points and a 4-2 record in conference and a 9-4 mark overall. Simon Becher and John Klein each had 12 points to lead the Billikens, with five goals and two assists from Becher and four goals and four assists for Klein. Patrick Schulte made 30 saves and allowed seven goal in 13 games for a .53 goals against average.
SLU will face third-seeded Fordham, which was 3-0-2 in league play and 5-0-2 overall, in the second semifinal Thursday. The Rams offense was led by Florian Deletioglu and Sameer Fathazada with seven points on three goals and one assist each. Josh Levine's goalkeeping resulted in 30 saves and just four goals against in seven games for a .52 goals against average. Fordham and Massachusetts tied with 11 points in the standings, and Fordham wins the head-to-head tiebreaker to win the North Division and secure the championship bid.
The winners of the two semifinals will advance to meet in the championship final, which will be played Saturday, April 17 at noon ET.
