GW Sweeps Swimming Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –George Washington junior Durde Matic  and freshman Julia Knox were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Performers of the Week. Freshmen Bode Ringenbach and Dara Reyblat of GW received Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week Honors. The awards, announced Wednesday, are for meets held

Matic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia., continued a remarkable run during a series of time trials at Navy on Friday, posting a time of 46.14 seconds in the 100 fly that broke the pool record at Lejeune Hall held by 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps. He also made his collegiate debut in the 200 free and posted a time that ranks ninth in the A-10 this season.

Knox, a native of Craigavon, Northern Ireland., faced off against the nation's best at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships, qualifying for the C final of the 200 breast on Saturday with a time of 2:17.82 that ranks fourth in program history before placing 23rd overall. She recorded a personal-best swim in the 400 IM of 4:23.79 to move up one spot to No. 6 on the program's all-time list, and posted a strong effort in the 200 IM to finish in 2:02.91, as well.

Ringenbach, a native of Raleigh, N.C., posted four season-best times at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships, highlighted by a 10th-place finish in the 400 IM in a career-best time that is an NCAA B-cut. He also clocked an all-time top 10 time in the 200 fly (1:49.68) and finished among the top 30 in both the 200 IM (1:50.30) and 200 breast (2:02.18) .

Reyblat, a Sherman Oaks, Calif., set a platform diving program record on Friday at Navy with a score of 213.83 securing a best mark posted earlier this season by teammate Jamie Doak.
