NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington graduate student Oscar Haynes Brown clinched the final Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week recognition while Saint Louis sophomore Kipp Keller along with freshman teammate Isaiah Parker garnered the league’s Defensive & Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. The awards are for matches played Oct. 25-31.
Haynes Brown composed a memorable season finale as the forward netted all four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to secure a 4-3 victory for the Colonials at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. The English import initially scored off an assist from Sandro Weber in the 11th minute, converted a PK in the 48th minute before completing a hat trick at the 61st minute off a feed from Tim Neumann; despite the Bonnies knotting the match in the final minute of play, the grad student proved clutch as he knocked in the golden goal less than two minutes into extra time. Notably, the four-score performance stands as the second of Haynes Brown’s collegiate career and equaled the most goals by anyone nationwide in a Division I contest this season.
Keller, a defender out of St. Louis, Mo., anchored a defense that did not surrender a goal against Rhode Island in the run of play – Rhody's lone score came on a penalty kick late in the contest – while also earning a goal himself by means of a PK, good for the eventual game-winner. The Billikens, who had already secured the league’s top seed in the upcoming Men’s Soccer Championship entering the final weekend, topped URI by a final 3-1 mark Saturday evening to secure an undefeated mark in A-10 competition as well.
A forward hailing from Gurnee, Ill., Parker collected a lone assist in the Billikens' only match of the week against Rhody, dropping a dime in to Simon Becher for the game’s opening score. The well-controlled play from Parker just inside the left of the box set up Becher for the one-tap past the Rams’ keeper at the 26th minute.
