NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Massachusetts senior Sam Breen as A-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Makira Cook was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 28 – Jan. 3.
Breen recorded her third straight double-double with game-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Minutewomen’s win at La Salle. The forward from Gibsonia, Pa., played the entire 40 minutes, contributing four steals and three assists, while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent at the line.
Cook had a career-night with 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while going 3-of-4 (.750) from three in the win over St. Bonaventure Friday. A guard from Hamilton, Ohio, Cook averaged 11.0 points on the week and shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the floor while coming off the bench in both games.
