George Mason Captures First Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Title

GENEVA, Ohio -- George Mason won its first Men’s Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship in program history on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute with a total of 657 points, breaking several records along the way.
 
Led by Peter Ward, the 2020 Atlantic 10 Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year, Mason finished out day four with two first place finishes. Ryan Donnelly and Logan Eubanks had a one-two finish in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:44.08 and 1:44.68, respectively. Luke Devore, the 2020 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie, placed first in the 200-yard butterfly and broke the conference record in the process, with a new time of 1:45.83. Gerald Hodges finished in third place in the 3-meter dive, contributing 16 points.
 
George Washington finished second with 637.5 points. GW’s 400-yard medley relay team (Tyler Kawakami, Youssef Regab, Dylan Arzoni, and Moritz Fath) placed first with a time of 2:57.62. Fath, the 2020 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer, led a one-two GW finish in the 100-yard freestyle with Kawakami. George Aspougalis broke the conference record with his first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:56.28. The Colonials' Peter Nachtwey earned 2020 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Diver honors, finishing first in the 3-meter dive with 330.30 points. Wesley Mattice, the GW diving coach also took home the 2020 Atlantic 10 Diving Coach of the Year award.
 
Tyler Pidde of Massachusetts took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:25.89.
 
St. Bonaventure placed third with 498 points, while La Salle was fourth with 438.5 points. Davidson (415 points) and Massachusetts (345.5) were fifth and sixth respectively, while Saint Louis and Fordham rounded out the team finishes.
