NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Amy Bonner, a veteran basketball official, became the first woman in to officiate a men’s basketball game in Atlantic 10 history Tuesday night. Bonner is part of the crew working the Dayton-Eastern Illinois non-conference game.

“Amy is a skilled official. I have encouraged Bryan Kersey, our men’s basketball assignor, to invite strong women officials on to our roster, as space becomes available.  Thus it’s great to have Amy working in the A-10 setting a great example for other women -- officiating basketball is officiating basketball regardless of gender!” stated Bernadette V. McGlade, Commissioner.

Bonner has a long career as an official in the WNBA, the NBA’s G-League, NCAA women’s basketball and in international competition as a FIBA official. She has previous experience officiating NCAA men’s basketball games this year in the Big 12 Conference.
