AMHERST, Mass. --Top-seeded Fordham took an early lead in game eight of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship with two runs in each of the first two innings, and held it through the end to knock out No. 2 Massachusetts 8-2 to advance to the consolation bracket final against the fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks.
The contest between the Hawks and the Rams, originally scheduled for for Friday at 4:00 pm, will be played on Saturday at 11:00 am due to inclement weather Friday. The championship final is slated to begin Saturday at 1:30 between No. 3 George Washington and the winner of the Fordham/SJU game.
A-10 Pitcher of the Year Madie Aughinbaugh pitched an eight-hit, two-run game while also singling in two runners in the first inning, and hitting a two-run homer in the fourth for a total of four RBI to lead the Rams. Chelsea Skrepenak scored three runs on three hits and Jordy Storm was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI.
Erin Stacevicz scored both of UMass’ runs, both batted in by Kaycee Carbone.
With the loss, the Minutewomen fall to 26-22 on the season.
