PITTSBURGH -- The third-seeded Duquesne Dukes defeated the No. 14 Rhode Island Rams in a 106-69 win on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship.
The Dukes (18-12) grabbed an early lead, outshooting Rhody 42-21 in the first quarter, and held a comfortable advantage throughout the game. The 106-point game sits second on the A-10 championship single-game records list for team points scored.
Senior Chassidy Omogrosso led the way for the Dukes with 22 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting from the floor and 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc to go with four rebounds and two assists. Duquesne teammate Conor Richardson also contributed a 20-point game shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the stripe. Julijana Vojinovic and Libby Bazelak combined for another 25 points for the Dukes.
Nicole Jorgensen led the Rams with 18 points and 10 rebounds while teammates Maia Moffitt and Libby Bazelak added a combined 25 points. With the loss, Rhode Island ends the season at 8-21.
Duquesne will face the winner of No. 6 Saint Louis and No. 11 Richmond on Friday in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship. That game, along with the three other quarterfinal matchups will be streamed live on ESPN+. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship final will all be played at Duquesne’s A.J.
