KINGSTON, R.I.—Top-seeded Rhode Island had seven different players score en route to a 7-3 win over No. 8 Davidson in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship.
The Rams (13-3-2) advance to face fifth-seeded Fordham Friday at 1:00 pm ET in the semifinals at Fordham’s Jack Coffey Field. Fordham beat No. 4 Saint Louis, 1-0, earlier Saturday.
Rhode Island got first half goals from Sondre Karterud, Filippo Tamburini and Peder Kristiansen, and both Kristiansen and Noam Kolakofsky both registered assists to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Charlie Booth and Stavros Zarokosta scored in the first six minutes of the second half, with assists to Kristiansen, Tamburini and Stefan Schmidt to put Rhody up 5-0.
Davidson’s Jamie Diluzo broke the shutout with a penalty kick in the 59
th minute. The Wildcats also got goals from Mateo Alzate in the 85
th minute and another PK score by Ned Morrissett in the 86
th minute.
The Rams’ final two goals came in the 61
st and 68
th minutes, on a pair of assists by Edvin Akselsen, setting up Niklas Middrup and Kolakofsky.
In all, Rhody held a slight edge on shots 15-14, but Davidson (4-11-2) had a 10-9 edge on shots on goal and a 4-3 lead in corner kicks. Rhody made seven saves to two by Davidson.
