BRONX, N.Y. - Third-seeded Dayton held onto a one-goal lead through the final 60 minutes to win 1-0 against No. 2 VCU Friday night to secure a spot in Sunday's Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship, held at Fordham's Jack Coffey Field. The Flyers will face top-seeded Rhode Island at Noon.

The Flyers converted on a penalty kick in the 31st minute as A-10 Midfielder of the Year, Kingsford Adjei snuck it past a diving Mario Sequeira for the lone score. It was the sophomore's 11th goal on the season.

Dayton edged the Rams in shots, 13-11, but tallied just four shots on goal to VCU's two.

The Rams forced the pressure in the second half, including a free kick that was punched out by UD goalie Federico Barrios, and a shot that went just wide of the goal. Barrios made a pair of saves in the win, while Sequiera registered three.

Dayton also turned up the offensive attack in the second attack, nearly adding to their lead on a corner kick taken by Adjei in the 21st minute. The Rams' defender, standing guard on the post, made a quick goal line save to avoid a two-goal defecit.

VCU nearly found the back of the net with seven minutes remaining as Ryo Shimazaki headed a free kick towards the net. The ball ricocheted off the far post before Dayton collected and cleared.
