A-10 Student-Athletes Break Commissioner?s Honor Roll Records for Second Straight Semester

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Thursday that 1,698 student-athletes excelled in the classroom in the spring semester, earning Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction. For the second straight semester, this total, as well as the average per school, set a number of league records.

Including the fall semester numbers, there were a total of 3,377 honorees during 2015-16, the most in league history. Previously the single year record was 3,255, set in 2012-13 when the conference had 16 institutions. Both marks are the best single semester numbers of Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade’s tenure

The 1,698 is the highest number of student-athletes that have qualified for the award since 2007 when the lists were regularly compiled. The total surpassed the 1,679 set during the 2015 fall semester, which was announced in March. In addition, the 14 member institutions had an average 121.3 student-athletes qualify for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, surpassing last semester’s record average of 119.9 honorees per institution.

To be listed on the bi-annual Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.

Saint Louis had the most spring semester honorees with 151, followed by Fordham with 143 and Massachusetts with 141. A complete list of honorees is included with this release. For the year, UMass (297), Fordham (296) and Saint Louis (295) totaled the most honorees.
