MADISON, Wis. – Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade participated in a roundtable discussion Friday at the Kohl Center with select members of the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee.
McGlade was one of a select few participants from around college athletics that included NCAA President Charlie Baker and a small group of commissioners, coaches and student-athletes. The participants spoke to the committee, led by Chairperson Jim Jordan of Ohio and Scott Fitzgerald of Wisconsin, who hosted the private event.
“This is a transformational time in college athletics, and the involvement of the federal government to establish a nationwide standard for NIL is crucial to the success of college athletics,” stated McGlade. “Advocating for the Atlantic 10 and similar conferences directly with members of Congress on these key issues was critical for the long-term sustainability of our programs and student-athletes within an equitable playing field for all conferences and institutions.”
McGlade and A-10 Associate Commissioner Michael Sainte’ also attended Wednesday’s “College Sports Day on the Hill” reception in Washington, D.C., where the Atlantic 10 headquarters are located. Commissioners from the power four spoke to the audience of NCAA members and congressional lobbyists on the importance of securing congressional support for intercollegiate athletics.
One of the most experienced commissioners in Division I, McGlade has ensured the Atlantic 10 stands at the forefront of the ongoing transformational change occurring in college athletics, leading as one of the preeminent basketball-centric conferences.
