HARMONY, Fla.— VCU men’s golf has been selected to repeat as Atlantic 10 Champions in the 2015 Pre-Championship poll, which was released Wednesday ahead of the 2015 Championship, which begins Friday at Harmony Golf Preserve.
The Rams garnered all 11 first-place votes in the poll, which was conducted among the league’s head golf coaches. VCU won the 2014 A-10 title by one stroke over Richmond. VCU, led by juniors Adam Ball and Steffan Harm, collected 121 points in the poll. The rams also return 2015 Rookie of the Year Enej Sarkanj and are coached by 2014 coach of the Year Matt Ball.
Richmond, last year’s runner-up, placed second in the poll with 108 points. The Spiders are led by last year’s medalist, Danny Pizetoski. League newcomer Davidson was picked to finish third with 83 points, just ahead of Dayton with 82 points.
Rhode Island, which tallied 80 points was picked fifth, followed by George Mason at six (70 points), George Washington seventh (64 points) and Saint Joseph’s (42 points). St. Bonaventure, Fordham and La Salle rounded out the poll respectively.
The Atlantic 10 men's golf championship begins this Friday with all11 A-10 golf teams will play 18 holes per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Practice rounds are slated for Thursday. The first teams will tee off on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Admission to the 2015 Championship is free. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
