Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham hammered three home runs and the Championship’s Most Outstanding Player, Michele Daubman, surrendered just two hits as the Rams captured its second straight Atlantic 10 Conference Softball title with an 11-0 victory over Saint Louis.
The Rams (36-18), who have captured three of the last four A-10 Championships, will be making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last five years.
Fordham got all the runs it would need on the day when leadoff hitter Sydney Canessa homered to make it 1-0. A Gabby Lutey RBI single later in the inning doubled the Fordham advantage to 2-0.
The Rams broke the game wide open in the second inning when they scored four runs, highlighted by a homerun by Elise Fortier that made it 6-0.
Lutey homered to start the third inning and sparked what proved to be a five run inning for Fordham to put the Rams in front 11-0.
Daubman, who retired 10 Billikens in a row at one point during the game, surrendered just two runs in 15 innings pitched over three games in the Championship en route to MOP honors.
Saint Louis which tied its program record with 30 wins, finishes the season 30-21.
